Twitch: Usually twitching of lids is not serious. Since your problem has been present for a long period of time you should an ophthalmologist for evaluation.Important to be proactive.

Sounds like: Ocular myokymia, which is quite common and self-limited usually and very annoying, but benign.  Caused most often by fatigue, eye strain, stress, lack of sleep, exhaustion, chemical imbalance, nearby infections, such as nasal or sinus, repetitive squinting, maybe blepharospam.  May respond to modification of corrective lenses.  See your ophthalmologist, if too troublesome.

Neither: I don't think the pinched neck nerve or the TMJ are related. You are describing blepharospasm. See an eye doc for evaluation/recommendations

: You should see your eye doctor because this could be an eye infection. The twitching could have been a sign of inflammation or irritation, both of which can happen with an infection. Now, with blurry vision and burning, an infection or irritation could indeed be present. So, see your eye doctor to evaluate your eye. Good luck!

Myokymia: Eyelid twitching, or myokymia, is a benign but annoying condition.  Reducing your stress and reducing caffeine intake make help.  It is not serious.

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests.  Try to drink more fruit juice, in case the symptoms are due to electrolyte balance. It would be prudent to see a doctor, preferably a neurologist.

Twitching=IRRITATION: Muscles that twitch are telling us that for SOME REASON they feel irritated.  That could be from excessive fatigue, from metabolic disturbances, from side effects to medications, from electrolyte imbalances, from lack of certain nutritional elements in the diet, from medical conditions that AFFECT muscles in general.....so many different causes. Impossible to tell whether rubbing does it or not.

One or both at once : Monocular eye muscle twitch often due to eye muscle strain ie prolonged reading, improper correction etc. Binocular suggests neurological conditions as meig, blepharospasm etc. See an md eye doc to make sure.
