Try your native herb: Most such infections are viral and thus antibiotics usually don't help. One of my favorite treatments for URI's and sinusitis is a herb native to South African, pelargonium sidoides, used as a folk remedy for many generations and now proven effective by research. It's sold under the name Umcka in the US, don't know how it's sold in its native country!

Symptoms: If you are producing sputum, it may be analyzed to determine the type of bacterial infection that you have and the resistance pattern. A fever and continued sputum production indicate that the infection is not well controlled. A chest imaging study may be obtained when you see your physician. Rest, drink fluids and use nasal saline spray.

Tips: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes –  see physician & get a streph throat test. If you have streph throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future compications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.

Pharyngitis: A viral or bacterial sore throat are often indistinguishable.  Redness, pain on swallowing, 'plaques' or white patched on the tonsils or back of the throat, fever, fatigue.  To test thedifference we do throat cultures or screens because rheumatic fever may be the result of an undiagnosed throat bacterial  infection and dosing the patient with peniciillin prevents these.

See an Oral Surgeon: With this type of question, it is better to see an oral surgeon for a complete head and neck evaluation.  I doubt anything that we answer can properly diagnose any symptoms or observations on your part, allay any fears or concerns you may have, or advise you adequately.  However, seeing an oral surgeon should be able to do all of that for you.

Not unusual: Lots of people get sore throat without abnormalities in WBC. Unless you have culture confirmation of it being bacterial, if was likely viral.

Probably allergies : If medications to for allergies seem to work then I would ask your doctor to give you an injection of Depo Medrol. That will get rid of your allergies for several weeks. But you can’t get the injection more than twice a year. If you have all year round allergies I would get allergy testing and desensitization. That’s what I did and it made my life so much better. I want that for you as well

since 2 days, i see blood (black/red) in my phlegm when i clear my throat. also some traces in my snot. chest x-rays came back normal, no sign of infection. what can it be? only thing was day before, i was cutting wood w/o mask for a few seconds?

: Bronchitis that is inflammation of the airways could cause bloody sputum. However  CXR is not a good way of evaluating because it is not sensitive in finding pathology. If you do not smoke, exposed to dust associated with cancer like asbestos, nor have family history of cancer you probably do not need to be stressed because it may just have been dust related inflammation that is likely to resolve.

is it possible to have had strep throat and an ear infection with no signs of fever? i was diagnosed with both but the only symptoms i had were pain?

: Depending on the time of the year between 5 &amp;20% of people can carry strep and not be ill with it or have signs. There is controversy as to whether asymptomatic strep carriers need treatment. Ear infections require an exam to diagnose but may not have fever.
