60 year old healthy male has constant pain on the right side, mid-torso. any idea as to the cause? no bruising, no strenuous activity

Accepted Answer

The : The differential diagnosis can be broad, though constant quality can be of some utility in differentiating causes.  It can simply be musculoskeletal in origin, such as an abdominal wall sprain given the muscular architecture; a hernia can be possible though it should be protuberant and gastrointestinal symptoms tend to develop.  A kidney stone can produce recalcitrant pain, especially if it is obstructing.  Certainly, gallbladder issues or acute liver disease can be possible but symptoms would be somewhat more undulating and you should have gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and/or vomiting.  Given that there's no mention of blood thinners such as coumadin, (warfarin) an intraabdominal bleed is less likely.  If you have a history of smoking or a family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm, a tear or flap defect can develop, but you should feel gradually worse.  This can also be a presentation of a tumor, fluid around the lung, rib bruising or fracture if there's preceding trauma or even referred pain from the back.  Other plausible explanations can be ulcers in your esophagus, stomach or proximal intestine.  Less likely would be infections or abscesses, collections of purulent fluid/material.
You should seek medical attention if this is worsening or not improving as an evaluation with laboratory and radiologic testing would be necessary in reaching a diagnosis.

kidney removed a week ago. no pain around wound, extreme bruising & pain on opp side on torso & leg. ok walking but trouble sitting/lying down.normal?

Post-op nephrectomy : If your pain and bruising is on the opposite side of the nephrectomy, i would be concerned for a possible retro peritoneal hematoma, essentially a bruise with a collection of blood that may take long to resorb. When you stand up there is less pressure on the nerves running through that space, you will feel it more sitting. Need to talk to your surgeon about this, esp. If you take blood thinners.

i've a rash that looks like insect bites (around 70) mainly on my torso (both sides). feels like bruises, very tender, aching under them. any ideas?!

Dermatologist: That would be a huge amount of insect bites and you would have noticed them long before 70 occurred. Tenderness and aching are also unusual features. I recommend a consultation with a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment. A viral illness like pityriasis rosea could be present.

i have what seems like blood pooling or a small red bruise at the point where my arm meets my torso. it isn't really sore. should i be concerned?

May be a bruise, or: This  may be a bruise  if it is new or a hemangioma. Your physician can help identify it is.

have lupus. getting very itchy raised red pores (far apart) on arm, legs, torso. getting lots of bruising around them. not sure if from itchy.cause?

Possible: If you have SLE ( systemic lupus erythematosus) then you must know that SLE can affect many different organs and very feequently the skin. The rash of SLE is photosensitive and typically describe as "butterfly rash" on your face, but SLE is known for many other dermatologic manifestations. You should ask your rheumatologist and if in doubt dermatologis can help sometimes with a skin biopsy.

i have lost 76 lbs and noticed a moderately big dark bruise on the left side of my waist should i be alarmed?

Accepted Answer

Worth a check-up: That is a lot of weight loss if unintentional.  Bruising can occur, but in the context of weight loss may be a red flag.  A few screening blood tests and physical exam are warranted.

i have unexplained bruising on my left side of stomach. swollen stomach with dull pain and pain in left side of back.

Pain: Pain is an indicator that sometime is not right. Bruising on the anterior abdomen may have come from bumping something. Swollen abdomen- does that mean you are constipated? When was your last bowel movement?
Pain in the left side of back could be due to kidney stone, referred pain, muscle pull.
Get a check up from a Doctor to help diagnose the problem.

22 male left side of under toe nail its like brownish like a bruise n if i look closely there 2 small dark dots under it never happened before.?

See below: This could be from injury and this is dried blood.
It could also be a wart that has formed under the nail
see a podiatrist.

discovered two unexplained bruises, one on each leg on the opposite sides of each other. right leg looks better, left leg looks worse. possibilities?

Leg's are in: the line of a lot of local trauma. While easy bruising can mean either low platelets or low clotting factors, I've never seen that unless the person already had a diagnosis to support it (alcoholism, liver disease) and the bruises looked obviously abnormal (bloody).
