Yes, several: Gassiness, loose stools and non-bloody diarrhea are common symptoms of lactose intolerance.   These symptoms can worsen as the amount of dairy product/milk is ingested.  Similarly, the symptoms decrease with avoiding milk/dairy in the diet.

Maybe something else: Lactose intolerance is common--25% of caucasians, 80% of afro-americans, almost 100% asians. Lactose intolerance can be secondary to lactase enzyme deficiency, or due to a bigger problem of small bowel inflammation, infection, infiltrative disease, and/or maldigestion. Don't assume its lactose intolerance unless tested, or at least assessed response to lactase enzyme replacement (like lactaid).

Confusing post: I would hope a baby can pass stools and some will after every feed. I don't consider that an illness. You are welcome to start over.  Please include a description of stool consistency, babies willingness to feed, weight gain or loss, etc.. This allows a better picture of what you feel is abnormal.

i recently found out i have too much fat in my stool, fat malabsorption. ive been lactose intolerant for many years. can this condition cause fat malabsorption?

: Lactose intolerance doesn't cause such a problem. However, if you have increased intestinal motility and transit time -- which could occur if you accidentally have some lactose in your diet -- that could result in increase fat content in stool. Even without rapid transit, occasional high fat in stool isn't necessarily abnormal. Discuss with your doctor; or perhaps see a gastroenterologist.

most mornings i have very loose watery stools like diarrhoea? i do have allergy to lactose. but happens when i've had none. any thoughts?

Diarrhea: you should be checked for celiac disease and colitis. You must see a gastroenterologist.

Stool issue: NO those 2 present with diarrea. It could be constipation. So try metamucil or any psyllium containing laxative to bulk the stools thanks

Those symptoms: Are not related to the diazepam you're taking. Loose, foul smelling stools sound more like steatorrhea from your gall bladder surgery. Lactose intolerance should be reliable every time you take in lactose with diarrhea, bloating, and gas from 30-90 minutes following lactose intake.

Constipation: It is very rare to be lactose intolerant at the age of 5 weeks. I would try formula like similac gentlease to see. If it didn't work, try nutramegen or pregestamil.

Unlikely: A high ph is alkaline, not acid. Any diarrhea can cause diaper rash. There are many causes of diarrhea at this age - infection, malabsorption, celiac etc. Please follow up with your doctor; see a ped GI specialist if recommended. Meanwhile clean with soft cloth and soap/water, and use appropriate antibiotic or antifungal ointment for the rash. Lactose intolerance is uncommon under age 6.

Gastroenterologist: The only way to know is to see a gastroenterologist who will consider a scope and sending the stool for evaluation.
