Yes: Ultrasound is a very good initial screening test for the kidneys.It can help identify kidney stones, obstruction of the kidneys, and tumors. If the ultrasound is questionable or clearly abnormal, a more specific imaging study is required such as a ct scan or MRI of the kidneys for further evaluation. Lesions seen ultrasound do not necessarily indicate cancer but further testing is warranted.

difficult: Difficult to answer without seeing the images- but if the tumor was 'isoechoic' or the same echogenicity as the surrounding normal kidney, then it would not be seen with us. A ct or MRI (both with contrast) are both much more sensitive for detecting renal tumors.

It can be benign: Cysts are common in the kidneys. So ask your doctor to confirm if it is cystic or solid structure. Cysts are benign fluid filled structures whic can be left alone. Solid lesions can be a tumor and may need to be removed. Repeat follow up in 6 months can be reassuring if there is no further increase in size. You may need to seen a Urologist to advice you further

: Kidney cysts are common. There are simple and complex cysts. Some need a biopsy. Some would need no further follow-up. More details are needed

Yes, but...: It is possible that a renal ultrasound might detect some findings associated with ovarian cancer but the cancer would have to be relatively advanced for such findings to be present. Ascites (fluid in the abdomen) soft tissue masses on the abdominal wall (peritoneal implants), and blockage of the kidneys may be seen. The ovaries themselves would not typically be studied.

Need further testing: If indeed a possible kidney mass was found on ultrasound, a CT scan (renal mass protocol) needs to be done in follow-up to confirm the presence of a mass and also to get an idea if there are any abnormally enlarged lymph nodes or other abnormalities in other organs.  This is because ultrasound is very limited in resolution.  A look at the adrenal glands with CT to rule out mass is important also.

30 yr old female. had renal ultrasound for micro hematuria. left ureter jet wasn't firing. kidney blood test normal. could this be cancer?

Blood in urine: It is not likely that you have a cancer.  I see you are taking anticoagulant meds.  This can predispose to hematuria.  Given the ultrasound finging of what could be slowed urine passage thru one ureter, coupled to microhematuria, I recommend further dialogue with your docs.  An IVP or better, a CT-IVP is a valuable next test.
