i have ulcerative colitis and been having a flare up for nearly 3 weeks now and from today my stools have been green with no blood. should i see my doctor?

: Yes.  Please see your gastroenterologist.  Unfortunately the ulcerative colitis if not properly treated when symptoms flair can only get worse.

If he is unable to : Pass stool, he could be suffering from toxic megacolon, especially if he is on steroids.  Get in touch with GI specialist immediately, or go to emergency room.

been taking pills 2x a day for ulcerative colitis. i think i still have a little blood in my stool. how do i stop it?

Accepted Answer

Depends: If you're feeling well and your stools are formed, could be constipation, which is very common after colitis improves. For this you can use stool softeners like miralax (polyethylene glycol). If you have lose stools or have urgency or diarrhea, your colitis may not be in control, and you should see your doctor.

i've had ulcerative colitis for 5 years.    lately my stool is solid, dark brown and skinny.  i feel good.   but what does my stool say of my health?

Sounds healthy: Generally, solid, dark and skinny stool is suggestive of a healthy large bowel.  This may be a signal that your bowel problems are under excellent control.  Furthermore, that fact that you are feeling well supports this.  If this is a drastic change from your previous bowel habits  it would be prudent to discuss with your gastroenterologist.

See GI doctor ASAP: You need to see a gastrointestinal doctor as soon as possible.  You are likely having a upper GI tract bleed and may need urgent evaluation and treatment.

Need evaluation: If you are passing blood clots in your stool you could have any number of potentially serious conditions in the GI tract and you need an evaluation asap. Ulcerative colitis is one of any number of possibilities that include a bleeding ulcer in upper digestive tract to cancer anywhere in the GI tract. Get evaluated immediately.

i had my gallbladder removed over 3 years ago, i also have ulcerative colitis... now i have pale oily stool.

See answer: You may have bile acid diarrhea or even fat malabsorption. If your UC is not under control, it'll be harder to take care of the malabsorption. I use cholestyramine to help bind the bile and that works pretty well for my patients.

No: Bloody stool can be from many different processes and crohn's / uc can present with symptoms other than blood stools.

Accepted Answer

Call your doc: If you have the diagnosis of ulcerative colitis already, and have bleedingyou need to contact your doc. Are you on meds? Are you taking them as prescribed? Do you also have hemorrhoids?
As to going acutely to hospital, would do so if hemorrhaging, severe pain, frequent bms, fever, lightheaded, chest pain, discomfort, palpitations, and/or unable to reach your doc.

i have celiac and ulcerative colitis now i had 3 episodes of tarry stools within 3 weeks also loss of appetite not wanting to eat, what could it be?

See details: This is likely an upper GI bleed if your stools are truly black and just not dark brown. If so, this is an urgent problem. See your gastroenterologist ASAP or go to the ER.
