wait for end MC: The Ph of the vagina is important in controlling the infections. During menstruation because of the blood the Ph is higher. The topical medications or the creams have difficulty in clearing the infections. As soon as as menstruations is over you can use Nystatin Cream or Chlortrimezol cream.

i have been getting recurring yeast infections & oral thrush since december . my bloodwork came back fine.   my doctor doesn't think this is systematic.  i think that it is and i need a long term anti-fungal med to treat it.  can i get feedback ?

Controversial: There is no easy answer to that question as there is no hard medical evidence for the "systemic yeast infection."  That being said, medicine is an art and I have treated several of my patients with recurrent yeast infections more aggressively with diflucan (fluconazole).  I have also done fungal cultures to determine if there is another fungal cause that requires a different anti-fungal medication.

on doctors recommendarion i stared using nystatin to treat oral thrush. however the white coating on my tongue looks the same everyday. no change, no dissapearance of fungi in any part. is this normal?

: Not all white tongue etc is yeast infection (thrush), so first the diagnosis must be confirmed. And up to 10-15% of yeasts are resistant to fluconazole and other "azole" drugs. Other drugs often are effective. As in the reply to your other message, an infectious diseases specialist is a good option to determine if this is the problem and which anti-fungal drug(s) likely would be effective.

i found pink bloody discharge and a blood stain on my underwear whilst using intravaginal cream to treat thrush and experience intense pelvic pain and burning once the cream is inserted, is this normal or should i try and see my doctor?

: I would suggest you get seen for an exam to confirm the diagnosis.

Thrush!: If you are asking for an adult, you should be able to see your regular internist initially.  If he/she feels it is necessary for you to see a specialist, then a referral could be made.  If you are asking for a child, i would bring the child to a pediatrician for an evaluation.  Thrush is often found in an immunocompromised person.

Don't worry: you won't have to guide your doctor. Just let the doctor know what your symptoms and concerns are and s/he should be able to take the assessment from there. Take care.

Not usually the : level of care that is needed. A routine appointment or possibly urgent care appointment are usually fine. Don't want to use the ER for non urgent matters.  If you have had vaginal thrush before and know the symptoms - you can self treat with over the counter products.  Take care.
