Poor posture : Muscle spasm from posture, & exercise are not uncommon.
Carotid spasm is rare.

Pulsate: With blood flow and pressure, the artery walls will expand with each heart beat, then relax and deflate a bit, and the cycle continues with each heart beat.  When you stand up, people can sometimes get a low blood pressure, due to the positional change, and the heart may try to compensate by increasing its heart rate, and therefore, this may be more noticeable in your neck.

when doing duplex of the carotid arteries, how high up the neck do u see? where does the sight usually end? can u see in level with the cheekbones?

Usually up to: the area where the arteries enter the skull.  So, no, it does not image the area of cheekbones.  It is useful test because atherosclerotic carotid disease is very common where common carotid artery bifurcates into external and internal branches.

inflammation of carotid arteries.  i have pain in the right side of my neck. i was told there was nothing that can be done except antinflamatory meds.

Well, yes: cannot say in your particular case without direct exam.
AND
large vessel autoimmune diseases are treated with high dose steroids. High dose steroids are effective in large vessel disease. Other therapies (anti-rejection drugs, monoclonal antibodies) are being evaluated and likely to be helpful, but are not known definitely to work yet.

could the carotid arteries clear themselves or with massaging my neck?

Not likely: A stenosis of the carotid arteries as in any other artery is a process that takes years to develop and is referred to as plaque. Plaque that has developed in the artery does not go away on its own. It can be removed reliably and safely  with endarterectomy of the carotid artery. Massaging the carotid arteries will likely not help the situation and may dislodge unstable plaque making it dangerous.

No: Plaque in the arteries remain free of symptoms until significant impairment of blood flow after plaque ruptures and causes a clot or until the blockage becomes significant usually &gt;80%.

Neck pain: certainly this could be a concern, with possible carotid artery dissection.  I would recommend a carotid duplex evaluation to evaluate the situation.

Torticollis: The Sternoclidomasoid" Muscle goes into spasm. I believe this what is happening to you. It is a benign condition. Nothing to worry about,although it is painful and cannot turn neck in all direction. 
Rx Anti Infalmmatory like Ibuprofen Ice application, Local Muscle recant like Bengay /Flexall/Deep heating and Oral Muscle Relaxant will help you.
 And if not better in 24 H. get examined by your MD.
