Twist and shout: Of course the safest thing to do if you are concerned about the severity is to have the ankle imaged. X-ray most likely. The immediate treatment should be ice compression and elevation. I would expect pain to some extent but after a day or so the pain should be reducing. Try to limit the amount of unnecessary pressure to the foot and see how it goes. Some times a wrap helps.

Yes: Yes the knee pain maybe due to compensatory changes in your walking. Try crutches . Can get a pair at a medical supply store.

Good idea: The bruise that went away has no real significance in light of the fact that you cannot bear weight and have persistent swelling.  Perhaps your physician referred you to ortho because of concerning MRI findings (was the MRI you listed done on your ankle?).  This referral seems very appropriate, as you could require treatment for a ligamentous injury or fracture.  Good luck

See a Specialist: You likely sprained your ankle, however there is a possibility of a fracture with any twisting of the ankle and continued pain.  It's important to stop activity until healing occurs.  I would recommend you getting an xray and further treatment for proper healing.

Ankle: Touch on the actual bone of the ankle and if that is very painful then you definitely ne an x-ray. If it is below the bone then you can try to treat it with ice for a couple days followed by heat.If you have access go buy an ankle brace if none of this helps see a physician.

Ankle and foot pain: Yes a fracture is possible. Particular concern would be the beginning of your little toe metatarsal bone. May also have a sprain of a ligament of the foot.

The : The only way to tell if you have a fracture is with an x-ray.  If you're in a lot of pain, go to the er.  If you can wait a day or so, go see an orthopedic surgeon who can x-ray your ankle and arm in their office.

Ankle Sprain: It may heal on its own with rest, ice, compression and elevation and a gradual return to your normal activities. However, a period of time in a boot or use of crutches may be necessary depending on the severity.
