Tuna in pregancy: I would avoid it,  as tuna, king mackeral and swordfish have high levels of mercury, which can cause defects in fetuses/babies. You can get omega 3 in prenatal vitamins or eating safe fish like salmon( wild not farmed)  sardines 6 oz per week or 2 x per week.

Great question: That's a very interesting question! it hasn't been studied to my knowledge. On the one hand, fish oil will raise total cholesterol but preferentially raises HDL (good) cholesterol. The adkins diet showed (to  everyone's surprise) that eating low carbs (high fat) diet doesn't actually raise cholesterol as was expected. So we don't know! one thing we do know: tuna in oil has more calories than water.

Mercury poisoning : from what you had today, you will not develop mercury poisoning.  But you are right, source for Mercury poisoning is from fish.  Still very rare disease.   Symptoms for Mercury poisoning are mostly neurological including sensory impairment, confusion,  numbness and etc.  it can lead to death.  But today's consumption will unlikely lead to Mercury poisoning.

i have glaucoma and rp, doctor said i need to eat a lot of fish (tuna, red fish, salmon, etc.) but i'm vegetarian (i do eat dairy/eggs). is there a food which provides the same, that i can replace it with?

: Ask specifically what it is in fish that they want you to get away from and then see if there is an FDA approved pill to more of that.  I would ask about the evidence that they have that eating fish vs other things helps. With your problem. You can also search pubmed.gov to see what you can find.
