my stomach feels bloated and i sometimes have a dull pain towards the right side of the middle of my stomach, alternating each occasion between front and back, with periodic muscle spasms at my triceps/shoulder. what could be the cause of this?

: This is an occasion where it is strongly recommended to have a clinician examine your abdomen. Sometimes true right upper quadrant problems can irritate the diaphragm just above it, which can refer discomfort to the shoulder. They may order an ultrasound if appropriate. Write down the foods you eat, the time you eat them, and when symptoms occur. Do this for 1-2 days. Your provider can review this

i have noticed small muscle spasms, calves, hamstrings biceps and triceps. not constant just kind of comes and goes. is this als signs?

Accepted Answer

Many causes: muscle spasms can be from many causes from electrolyte abnormalities (magnesium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus) to motor nerves,roots,anterior horn disease. ALS in the context of no weakness is highly unlikely but you need to be evaluated by a neurologist to rule out dangerous causes of spasms with muscle EMG testing.

is there one medicine for spasticity and muscle spasms? associated with neuropathy. which is recommended??

No: There are multiple medications we use for muscle spasticity to varying degrees of help including flexeril, zanaflex, soma, baclofen, Valium, and skelaxin (metaxalone) just to name a few.  Discuss directly with your doctor what would be best for you.

i have had spasticity with full body muscle spasms(especially in feet) and stiffness for 6 weeks. along with light tingling and feeling of weakness in left hand. does this mean i have als? note: i've had two mri's and both came back normal?

: ALS needs a good clinical as well as lab work in addition NRI.  It could be something else too. Pl see a good neurologist. Wish you well

Tricep exercises: Straight-bar cable pushdowns, lying overhead triceps extensions
and cable rope extentsons are a few of the exercises that can be used.

if i do bicep, back, triceps exercises then skip a day and repeat. should i just target two muscles a day?

Accepted Answer

Depends: If you are just starting out, exercise wise, you'll likely be able to get away working out this frequently.  But the more serious your lifting habits and longer you are doing this, the more likely you will start to suffer from over-training.  Smaller muscles groups like bi's and tri's can often be trained more regularly yet still recover - this may not so much be the case when training your back.

are the muscles used for kegels and reverse kegels the same muscle?  or is it different like bicep and triceps?

My take for you ...: To hold something together in balance to function always requires healthy extensor and flexor muscles to alternatingly contract and relax in concert. So, Kegel exercise uses the same sets of extensor and flexor muscles to artificially exercise them like what we do in exercising the arms or legs.

20y ulnar, median nerves torn & surgically fixed, can't fully stretch elbow yet but i go to gym and can't strengthen my triceps muscle it it's very hard to work without weight!any advice please thanks?

You only need to ask: The solution is follow the post operative instructions that should have been prescribed by your surgeon. You may need to push him for assistance for the proper rehabilitation protocol. If this is not possible, then inquire at your gym for an exercise coordinator for his input and assistance.

what exercises use the tricep muscles?

Accepted Answer

Many will: Pushup, dips, press downs, french press ... really any exercise where you extend your arm out - as in "press" your hand out - will engage the triceps.  Even planks will do so, much less so if you "lock" your arms out - as at that point much of the stress going into the elbow joint(aka bad) rather than the surrounding muscles.
