However treatment failure is most commonly due to improper application and/or reinfestation. Household contacts must also be treated. Even after successful treatment itching can persist up to a month and may require oral antihistamines and rarely topical steroids. See your doctor.

Nix, (permethrin) : Nix, which is used to treat head lice, contains permethrin.  But, it is a creme rinse for the hair and not the same percentage as that which has been shown to work for scabies so i would recommend you see a dermatologist for Elimite cream. Lice: Usually only severe scabies infections require two separate treatments. Lice are treated twice because nits  incubate over 7 to 14 days - so the new lice need to be killed.

Itchy to itch free: You will become more itchy once treatment for scabies has started. Why? Your body is already reacting to the presence of the mites and mite poop. Once treatment starts to work, individual mites get broken down into many particles that the body reacts to even more. Hence, you will itch like crazy for the first 1-2 days on treatment and then you will be itch free!

2 of them: The cheapest one is a lotion (permethrine) which you have to put on your body from neck to toes. It will kill the parasite but won't stop the itching until 2-3 weeks later. The other one is a pill you have to take. Same as the other one, it won't stop the itching. You need another medication for it. Wash all the bed linen and the clothes you were wearing in hot water to avoid reinfestation.

The treatment is to apply permethin once overnight and repeat in one week if necessary.. Post scabetic itching is treated with topical steroids. Sheets and pillow cases are washed the next morning.
