Pulmonologist: You don't mention why you had the chest ct scan. Linear atelectasis indicates lack of full expansion with a deep breath in those areas of the lung. They may represent scarring from old bronchopneumonia and there may be no active lung problems at this time. I think it's a good idea to have an evaluation by a pulmonologist to determine whether any other testing,treatment or follow-up is advisable.

Exercise and live will and it will go away.

You probably had a lung infection and la is a residual that should go away.

Atelectasis: Atelectasis is a condition in which one or more areas of your lungs collapse or don't inflate properly. If only a small area or a few small areas of lung are affected, you may have no signs or symptoms.

If a large area or several large areas of lung are affected, they may not be able to deliver enough oxygen to your blood. This can cause symptoms and complications.

Yes: Atelectasis simply means that there is an area of the lung where the alveoli (air sacs) are collapsed or not completely inflated.  Linear atelectasis usually means that this involves a very tiny portion of the lung.  This is usually a transient finding unless there is something blocking the larger airways.  Bronchiectasis, however, is not usually reversible.

See below: Atelecatsis means some loss of lung volume, it could be mild and harmless with no symptoms at all, or might need more work up  like chest CT scan if there are symptom like shortness of breadth, long standing cough as well underlying history of smoking ,asthma,  or copd/ emphysema or other lung issues.  simple deep breathing exercises help in clearing secretions and increasing lung volumes

Atelectasis: Atelectasis is an area of lung that doesn't expand during a deep breath. It may be a remnant of a prior inflammatory process like bronchopneumonia. Since you have a minimal finding with the rest of the lungs being normal, it doesn't appear to be serious. Your physician or a pulmonologist could advise you best,however.

If it is a lot...: Atelectasis is the deflation of small lung units. If it is small, it usually does not cause shortness of breath. If, however, most of the lung gets deflated, that can cause shortness of breath. A chest xray can tell the difference. The best way to treat atelectasis is to take deep breaths.

Depends: What caused these abnormalities? Has that process/disease healed completely? If there is no more active disease, the abnormality your descried should not affect your day to day life.

Needs evaluation: The presence of linear opacities with hilar adenopathy can be due to several acute or chronic conditions such as histoplasmosis, atypical mycobacterial infections, sarcoidosis, or rarely malignancy etc. Your husband should immediately see a lung specialist for a complete evaluation to determine the underlying cause, which will help determine appropriate course of treatment.
