Mgt: If there is a small amount of fluid or inflammation this will resolve in a few weeks. If you experience fever, chest pain or difficulty breathing, I would advise seeing the ED for further management . Chest imaging may be helpful in following your progress.

Similar: Rub is the sound we hear when a stethoscope is placed on the chest. This is due to the two surfaces of pleura rub against each other when lacking in normally occurring lubricant fluid. Pleuritic pain/ pleural chest pain is due to inflammation of pleura.

Fever, cough, pain: In a child who has a tracheostomy, hearing pleural rubs on the right would be particularly concerning as this is the most common place to get a pneumonia in such individuals. If they have a fever, new lung sounds, pain or a new productive cough, it would be wise to seek the help of a physician soon in the event antibiotics are needed.

: Use any of the two antibiotics above. In future use a water based personal lubricant or jelly on penis to reduce friction.

49 days ago, i had intercourse with someone who had hiv + by friction (he rubbed his penis on my anus). then i started pep treatment. 4 gene antigen antibody negative on day 15 and 18 after pep. can i trust ? does pep affect the test?

: Yes -- if PEP is not successful, and someone therefore acquires HIV, it takes longer for blood tests to become positive. You cannot trust the test results until at least a month, and probably 6 weeks, after the last dose of PEP drug.

Effusion...: There is always a small amount of fluid around the lung to lubricate the surfaces for breathing. A pleural effusion is when there is excess fluid in this space surrounding the lung. Depending on the cause of the effusion, if it is small and the cause resolves, the pleural fluid can get re-absorbed without the need for drainage.

what are the treatment and prognosis for pneumonia and pleural effusion?

Accepted Answer

Varies: If bacterial pneumonia with fluid= effusion are caught and treated early and with  appropriate antibacterial agents, then full recovery is likely.
If the effusion is large, drainage by thoracic tap="thoracentesis can be diagnostic and therapeutic.
Depending on age, smoking, etc. One likely needs cut scan and maybe bronchoscope to rule out cancer of the lung causing the pneumonia.

Depends on: The cause , if some one develops plural effusion after an attack of pancreatic inflammation , when it subsides effusion will clear ,  or some thing like  advanced malignancy will not clear speak to your doctor

Accepted Answer

No: Then it is not a malignancy , successful treatment will resolve more often , some times need interventional treatment.
