Therapy: Physical therapy and occupational therapy should be important for you but if forearm pain is severe enough to prevent you from having this therapy your orthopedic surgeon will have to provide advice as to the cause &amp;treatment options,if any,and let you know when to start therapy. my mri showed two straight line fractures in left thumb. what's preferred method of treatment? i work in kitchen & must be 100% able, no restrictions.

A thumb Spica: "cast (now made with more durable material) can generally fit under a glove and as long as you are right hand dominant you might be able to work full duty. Your Orthopedist should review your job description with you and determine if you can work!

18 days since cast/brace removed for 1st metacarpal fracture thumb. 4 therapy sessions later wrist is still immobile & thumb still swollen won't bend.

You should: re-consult with your ortho surgeon regarding a possible problem with fracture healing or a missed injury to tendon.  Or get a second opinion from a hand surgeon.

Be patient : An injury to the digital nerve may take months to years (2 months to 2 years) to recover from.  You probably have a neuroma that has formed.  An evaluation by an orthopedic hand surgeon may offer you a surgical option.

Depends: Depends on many factors how bad is the fracture and how good is the vitamin d level and of course all smokers heal slower
all fractures take about 2 years to go on to full healing and remodeling  but most should be pretty darn solid by 10-12 weeks 
with hands stiffness is a major issue post injury   so early gentle range of motion is important.

A hand orthopedist.: Any significant hand trauma should be seen urgently. Till then clean skin, and apply ice.  An x-ray will generally find fracture, but often when first occurs, may miss a hairline fracture, or one in the many bones of the hand. If clinically suspect even after 'normal' x-ray, may need ct scan, mri, bone scan. A fracture may show up with regular x-ray a bit later, when calcium there. C a hand ortho.

Alot or nothing: Some fractures require extensive and prolonged therapy for full recovery, while some just need skillful neglect.  The location of your fracture and how it has been treated to date, as well as your motivation to recover will determine your rate of recovery.

If by "heal": you mean restore function and eliminate pain HAND THERAPY is very successful in  the majority of cases!
