Time: Best way to treat this is to apply a thin layer of vaseline 2-3x/day and let time do the rest. The skin should heal within a few (4-5) days.

Burning skin: you could possibly be suffering from polyneuropathy. Imwould lso be checked out for MS

See below: He may resent your inquiring about something that may be more embarrassing to him.  Give him some time and perhaps he will reveal how he got it.  Pick and choose your battles. I doubt it is anything that is dangerous if he is otherwise healthy and well.

Carpet burn: Keep it clean and apply cool compresses and polysporin. Give Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for pain. If it becomes infected have it checked. All the best.

i'm 62 yrs old and have started having discomfort in my left knee when i kneel that feels like a carpet burn, should i be concerned?

Yes: It is probably the beginning of osteoarthritis. Exercise your knees. Apply warm water bottle around the knee. You can take Motrin over the counter for pain. You can take glucosamine / chondrotin sulfate twice a day. This is non prescription. Please see orthopedic surgeon for cortisone or synvisc (hylan g-f 20) injections if it remains symptomatic.

can you develop allergies ? i love shrimp and ate it my whole life. last night i ate some and developed a painful carpet burn like rash. gone now tho

Yes and no: Yes you can become allergic to anything at any time in your life.  However an allergic reaction to shrimp should cause an itchy rash instead of a burning one.  If the rash is localized to 1/2 of the body and not extending beyond the midline, consider shingles for which you should see your doctor immediately to get started on an antiviral drug.

If the redness and: soreness wasn't there right after the fall and if it is getting worse, there could be a skin infection developing. You should have it looked at by your doctor.

Eczema?: It's very possible you have eczema or an environmental allergy.  Your best bet is to see your PCP or dermatologist.  They may prescribe a trial of cortisone cream or do a small punch biopsy of the area in question to get a definitive diagnosis.

Severe Pain IMPT: Severe pain is always important.  Pleas get your doctor to do a careful history and physical to see if you have a problem that needs attention now.

Tough one!: How long have you had this feeling?  Do you have any back problems? Have you injured the area?  Do you have diabetes or other medical problems?  Also, early symptoms of shingles (herpes zoster) can cause a feeling of hypersenistivity before the rash breaks out.  If your problem continues, see a doc.
