Alocohol/vinegar: You may prepare a mixture of 1:1 isopropyl alcohol and white vinegar. Put 3-4 drops into each ear 4 times a day for 7-10 days. If you get severe swelling on the entry to the ear canal or if the pain is not improving in 2-3 days, you should be examined, and probably get a prescription medication. Once the infection clears, you may use a few drops of this mixture in each ear to prevent infections

Ear infections can be on the outside including the ear and canal, and some in the middle ear. Drainage of pus or blood is a clear sign of a problem. Pain, swelling and redness are also concerning. If you feel sick, or have a fever it suggests a possible systemic infection.

OM symptoms: can be variable.  Some symptoms include fullness, hearing loss, pain, ear drainage, dizziness, and fever.  Treatment of ear infections is individualized, but usually consists of some form of antibiotic.  Secondary medications may include  decongestants, mucolytics, antiinflammatories/steroids and pain medications.

That depends: Often, fluid in the middle ear, behind the eardrum, is not infected and does not need immediate antibiotic treatment.  If there is infected fluid in the middle ear, then an oral antibiotic is indicated to eradicate the bacterial source of the infection.  If there is a tube in the eardrum, then drops would be useful as well to treat the infection.
