Not necessarily: I'd recommend getting it looked at if it hurts. An ear infection could be crackly, cut crackly doesn't mean ear infection.

Any reasons why my ears crackle with an ear infection?

Dr. Deborah Ungerleider

Fluid in your ear.: Many ear infections have fluid behind the eardrum, which is infected. Sometimes that fluid causes a crackling sensation. Also, if you are putting any ear drops in your ear for pain or a swimmer's ear, that may cause crackling sounds.

Why do my ears crackle? Is this an ear infection?

Unplug your ear: You are describing what is likely eustachian tube dysfunction or inner ear congestion. While not serious, it can be annoying & can last hrs to days. There can also be a sense or fullness and at times slight balance problems. Treatment can oral decongestants, steroid nasal sprays or intentional deep yawning, chewing gum, or holding your nose as you blow your cheeks out with your mouth closed.
