Styes are infected…: …oil glands in the margin of eyelid (like pimples). Do not squeeze them; it can worsen infection. Apply warm compresses several times a day to bring stye to head so it will open on its own & drain. More involved sties may require topical antibiotics or incision & removal of contents by doctor. Wash hands thoroughly after  working around sties. Drainage on pillowcase/washcloth should be sterilized.

Heat: Apply heat to the eyelid and wash it with an eyelid cleaner.  There are several available commercially, but dilute baby shampoo will also work.  Heat a wet wash cloth in the microwave for a short time (15 sec) and if not too hot ( you do not want to damage your skin and the skin on the eyelids is very thin) apply to the sty.  The clean it with lid scrubs.  Some of these need antibiotics.

These loosen the oils and allow them to be expressed from the lid. If persistent, a hordeolum can become a chalazion, which often needs either a steroid injection or surgical excision. See an ophthalmologist to be sure.
