Same as gargles: Warm soup has the same effect as warm salt water gargles in relaxing the muscles.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

By whom?: Spicy food will sting the throat more during inflammation, but it will not alter the course of infection.

: We only recommend it for severe oropharyngeal pain and pain with swallowing (odynophagia) in certain conditions. Yes, it works well but your mouth is completely numb with the solution. Common OTC analgesics such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, etc., are usually used first. Antibiotic treatment for the cause such as strep throat infection is effective for inflammatory/pain alleviation.

Get it checked: If you are having sore throat and fever and muscle aches with a cough, it is likely viral.  If not, get examined by a doctor.

Maybe antibiotics: Sore throat can be caused by virus or bacteria.  I would recommend that you see a doctor and get a rapid strep and culture.  If it is strep, you will need a prescription for an antibiotic.  In the meantime there are lots of soothing otc lozenges for relief of pain.  Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin also help with the pain.

It depends: Many sore throats are viral and will go away without treatment.  Gargle with warm salt water several times a day and eat ice cream or drink cold drinks for comfort.  You can find some lozenges that will numb the throat but they will also numb the tongue, which some people don't like.  If you also have a fever, headache,  bad breath, or swollen glands in your neck, you should be checked.

OK, and....: This is very little information to go on, but if you think you're getting a cold/flu, you may want to go out and get zinc lozenges, since zinc has been proven to inhibit the attachment of adenovirus to the throat early on in the course of disease.  Drink plenty of fluids, keep warm, and take vitamin c.  If this fails, see the doctor.
