Yes: The goal is to decongest the sinuses and to help expel the excess mucus. Nasal irrigations, decongestants (oral and nasal sprays), steroids, (oral and nasal sprays), mucolytics, and allergy meds, such as antihistamines (only use if you have allergies) are very useful.Other than the steroids, you can find all these medications/treatments over-the-counter. See a doctor if not better in several days.

hello, my son has strep throat and i wanted to treat it without antibiotics. he's 3 and were on our 4th day of strep and with natural treatment he has not gotten worse, or better. i have an appt. tomorrow morning with his pediatrician.

Since : Since it has been 4 days, you have probably seen his pediatrician by now.  Hopefully, he is on treatment.  Just for future reference, anyone with strep should be treated with antibiotics.

Even though 90% of people with a strep throat infection will get better on their own, 10% of those people (usually kids) will go on to develop rheumatic fever - a serious complication of strep.  40% of those folks will go on to have inflammation of the heart and permanent damage to the valves.  Luckily, we rarely see this anymore because most strep is treated with antibiotics before it gets to this point, but before antibiotics, this was a common occurance and many kids died.  For that reason, i cannot recommend "natural" treatments for strep since they put your child at risk for permanent and serious heart damage.

It should resolve. : Most strep infections will resolve without any antibiotic treatment. However, you should know what you are risking. Strep antibiodies can damage you own body tissues, especially heart valves. This can cuase rheumatic heart disease and can irreversably damage your heart and joints. This is why we treat step agressivley with antibiotics. Good luck.

Some anecdotal...: Some have claim for years that cranberry juice could help fight a UTI due to changes in your bladder tissue that do not allow bacteria to grow as they need to. However, there is no clear scientific prove of this. Many healthy people's bodies fight the infection on its own but that is impossible to predict so in order to avoid complications antibiotics are recommended if having symptoms of UTI.

UTI: In an uncomplicated bladder infection sometimes you can wash out the bacteria by drinking water and cranberry juice or tablets.

Need antibiotics: Hi, sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. If you are having fever and flank pain, I'd recommend you be seen as soon as possible for antibiotic therapy. Fever and flank pain can be signs that the infection has moved up from the bladder and further up into the kidneys, which can become quite serious if not treated promptly. Please try to get seen soon. Hope this helps

Wash the wound with mild soap, rinse well with water, hairdryer the area, cover with gauze and get to your doc with a serious wound. Occasionally wound care gets delayed by hopes the antibiotic ointment will cure.
