7-10 days: it take 7-10 days until the redness is gone, and the irritation cool off, but that depend on how deep the burn is and what degree,frist second or third.assuming it is only first degree burn, no blister, then it take 7-10 days.apply topical antibiotic if you can.

Possibilities: The possibilities include various infections like impetigo that will require prescription medication. There are other options, I have seen chickenpox look this way too, but with impetigo on top of the cpx.

Need more than 4 day: Will take longer than 4 days to heal. Cool water will reduce pain. Frequent use of a cream for dry skin will feel good and reduce peeling. If you have dark skin, you may have color changes for a long time and choose to use makeup over it.

Burn or allergic?: Wax allergy is unheard of but if you have a burn, only time will heal it although some have touted aloe or Arnica oil to be beneficial. The most important thing is to sure that you keep the area clean to prevent infection.  If the area burnt is extensive, a topical antibiotic cream may be considered.

: clean area gently with soap and water and apply cortisone ointment and protective cotton dressing. for a few days if not better then see your doc. Do not use the product again. Hope you feel better

i have a burn from hot sugar wax with blister the size of a dime on thumb. can i treat it myself, or do i need to be seen? and should i cover it?

Yes: put aloe vera on it and cover with a gauze bandage.  Take Motrin as directed.  If it just happened apply ice to it (10 minutes on 10 minutes off or so) for the first 12 hours 
do not pick at a blister if it forms.
