Other more peripheral problems can also cause sciatic nerve injury such as piriformis syndrome. The injury can become permanent if the underlying cause is not identified and treated.

Radial Nerve: The presence of a wrist drop with a humeral fracture is most often due to a stretch injury or contusion of the nerve as it travels down the arm in the spiral groove.  An extension wrist splint may be helpful to prevent a flexion contracture from the associated wrist drop.  If there is an absence of improvement on exam and serial EMG testing, surgical exploration may need to be considered.

Injury can be aggravated by movement of the ankle because tendons of the ankle travel with the nerve. Resting the sural nerve will help it heal.
