Let me explain: Avulsion. The forcible separation of a piece from the entire structure. Like your ligament.
Rupture is tearing or disruption of tissue.
The avulsion is easier to heal and repair and give better result, rupture is harder to heel and give less results.

Yes: Acl tears that are partial typically heal adequately without surgery and rarely tear completely later. Complete tears never heal spontaneously but a rare person can function without reconstruction. Most require surgery to make a new ligament, as the only means to a "cure". Acupuncture, prolotherapy, herbals, organics, prp, therapy, etc never cure acl tears.

Read below: If this is a grade 1 tear, then immobilization is usually enough.  If grade 2 depending on it's extent, this may be cured with a cast or possible surgery.  If grade 3 tear, it will undoubtedly require surgery.

MRI: Ligaments can only be seen on an mri.  Xrays are only able to show bones and the relationships between the bones.

Yes (to an extent): Any surgery will cause post-operative pain.  There will also be discomfort with the therapy that is required after the procedure.  Different patients have different pain thresholds, but usually, the pain post-operatively isn't so bad (from the feedback i've gotten from my patients who have had the surgery).

Depending on the se-: Verity and the site of the ligament injury. Most are treatable by non operative means in majority of patients, while some require surgery, like acl reconstruction. All treatments are individualized to the patient, keeping in mind his specific needs etc.
