At risk.: Should see doc at earliest convenience. She will be a high risk pregnancy and will be monitored closely.

Very serious: The symptoms vary but may include increased swelling, headache, upper abdominal pain, decreased urine output, a feeling of impending doom, increased reflexes, and blurry vision.  Untreated pre-eclampsia could be life threatening.

how do i lower bp after pregnancy? already on meds. and why is it still up? no pre eclampsia but bp did start to creep up at end.

Tincture of Time: Persistent hypertension is fairly common after delivery with pregnancy induced hypertension.  It usually resolves after pregnancy.  How soon is somewhat variable; anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months.  Stay on your medications and keep your appointments.  When your blood pressure starts to drop, your doc will probably take you off blood-pressure medications.  Best wishes!

Possibly: You most likely will not get pre eclampsia again, however risk factors include history, weight, history of hypertension, diabetes, and renal abnormalities.

Accepted Answer

Eclampsia: Eclampsia may recur as pre-eclampsia in another pregnancy. Usually recurrence rates are estimated as about 15%. If you have high blood pressure outside of pregnancy recurrence risks may be higher-about 30%.

any ideas if i can have a normal pregnancy after having pre eclampsia in the past?

Possible: There is a tendency to have pre-eclampsia again in next pregnancy especially if it was severe and preterm.  It may get worse and earlier in the next pregnancy.  However, some patients don't have a recurrence.  What I advise is do some pre pregnancy planning because of the possible need for bedrest, hospitalization.

Accepted Answer

Not likely: If healthy, and you eat well, keep active, take prenatal vitamins and have regular prenatal checks, while pregnant, you are not at risk for clots or pre eclampsia. Also, your chances of dying are about zero. Would you like to have a baby? Are you afraid? Looks like you have done some research. Why not talk to your dr about your concerns. Good luck to you. Stroke in pregnancy: There are many causes of stroke in pregnancy, some unique to being pregnant. The list is quite exhaustive but include all the things that would make young people art risk. 34 weeks and i had a trace of protein on and off through out my pregnancy. my blood pressure was always low normal but now today it was 120/70 and urine has 0.3 g/l protein.  is this a sign of slowly developing pre-eclampsia?

: Could be.  I do not know normal values for pregnancy in Canada.  Always send them.

Slowly developing can quickly turn into an emergency.  Discuss with your local Drs.  Don’t mess around.
