Through a vein: Enteral typically means thru your gut or intestine whereas parenteral means any way besides your gut/intestine. Therefore, parenteral nutrition is food typically given through veins. Due to nature of this kind of food, you can't put it thru a small vein like on back of your hand. It has to go thru a major vein, say in your neck, under your collar bone, etc. But since it'll be a while, we use picc.

Probably not: Total parental nutrition (TPN) is typically used when a patient has not other means of getting nutrition except through an iv. (for example their GI system is not working and can not absorb nutrients). Check with your doctor to see if there are any viable alternatives to this method of "feeding". But i suspect that if they have recommended this, they have no other good alternatives.

Bowel rest: If swallowing is an issue, we can give food via peg tube thru skin directly into stomach. But some patients need bowel rest so we give total parenteral nutrition (TPN) through veins so nothing is in stomach/intestine. These are major veins, not tiny ones on back of hand, usually via picc (peripherally inserted central catheter) line since it's expected that you'll need TPN for a long time.

PPN/ oral diet: Peripheral parental nutrition is less concentrated formula given thro peripheral venous line. The best nutrition is by mouth to prevent complications of tpn.
