Puzzling: Topamax (topiramate) can cause swelling of the ciliary body in the eye which can cause the pressure to increase and to become very near-sighted.  It is difficult to imagine a scenario in which it would cause or change astigmatism.  These issues resolve with discontinuing the drug.

Discuss this with your ophthalmologist.

i have had a h/a everyday since last thurs. sometimes 2x a day. today i had 3 ha episodes at work at diff times.  unilateral on the right side behind eye. i take 25mg topamax (topiramate) 2x a day. please help!

Eye exam: Angle closure glaucoma is a rare side effect of topamax (topiramate). Your symptoms of occasional eye pain and headache probably do not represent this. However, it would still be a good idea to have a complete eye exam by an ophthalmologist to be certain and allay your fears b.

Side effects: Per Drugs.Com - Topirimate  can cause ocular side effects:  "Common (1% to 10%): Vision blurred, diplopia, visual disturbance **
Uncommon (0.1% to 1%): Visual acuity reduced, scotoma, myopia, abnormal sensation in eye, dry eye, photophobia, blepharospasm, lacrimation increased, photopsia, mydriasis, presbyopia"

Topamax (topiramate): I recommend that you see your eye md asap. Some people on topamax (topiramate) can have acute glaucoma as a result of the medication causes ciliary body swelling, which in turn causes the angles of the eye to close off raising the intraocular pressure.
