how to deal with tonsillectomy pain & how long is the recovery?

Expect two peaks: The first two days aren't too bad.  The worst days are the second and third after the procedure as swelling peaks.  It then improves gradually but there is often a second peak on 4-6 days postop as the scabs on the tonsillectomy sites shed.  Pain may also depend on surgical technique. Be generous with pain meds such as narcotics and advil, (ibuprofen)  topical Lidocaine can help.  Should be back fully at 2 wk.

just over 2 weeks post tonsillectomy, pain has gone but no appetite. what can i do to make sure i am eating and drinking enough?

Tonsillectomy : In the short term a loss of appetite is not concerning, but dehydration is. A good gauge for hydration is urine color. If it is pale yellow to clear you are hydrated.

Yes: Yes, in your age range, tonsillectomy is very painful. If you are experiencing this pain now, call your ENT doc, make sure HE/SHE thinks it's within normal limits, and ask for stronger pain meds.

if i throw up can i take my post-tonsillectomy pain killers off schedule or do i still have to wait the 4 hours?

Depends: If you vomit immediately after taking the pain pills and see pills in the emesis then you could retake them but if it's been an hour or more then probably not. I would check with your surgeon to make sure.

have viscous lidocaine for post tonsillectomy pain. 10 ml is prescribed per dose. says not to mix w h20 and to spit out. can i mix bc hard to gargle?

Do not mix: if you mix it with water then  its efficacy will be reduced as.it gets diluted. Lidocaine is numbing medicine and helps reduce pain.

day 8 post tonsillectomy: pain ears, jaw. foul odor, slime in mouth. no antibiotics post-op. cant eat. my dr wears a respirator to protect himself, isn't worried about infection for me? what do i do? im scared & dr isnt taking seriously?

Tonsillectomy: Almost all surgeons will give you something for pain. Whether  you use it or not depends on your pain tolerance. The older you are the more painful it is.

Not a fun time: Tonsillectomy can be a challenge for kids to recover from, and is even worse in adults.  

The patient will experience strep-throat-like pain (and also referred ear pain) with trouble eating for between 1 and 4 weeks-- a guesstimate of 1-2 weeks for under 12, 2 weeks for 13-20, 3 weeks for 21-31, 4 weeks for over 30.  While it sucks, most don't regret it after it's done.  Good luck!

3 weeks: You may want to ask your surgeon this. Recovery will include major throat pain for 2 weeks, followed by additional pain for another week.

Listen to your body: At 20 you shouldn't need to take a stomach acid blocker. Revise your food intake so it isn't needed. Eat plenty of vegetables and turmeric.  Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and sugar.  Take vitamin c with bioflavanoids  a few times a  day to lower histamine and see if you can help your body heal itself.  Surgery is best reserved  for recurrent infection or because tonsils cause obstruction at night.
