i was recently diagnosed by an ent dr with a papilloma one on my uvulva and left tonsil. i was told to either surgically remove both tonsil or remove by incision the tumor. i'd like to know if its better to choose the 2nd option??

Excision only: Papillomas typically arise off the membranes of the oropharynx and oral cavity and can be easily removed from the tonsil tissue without requiring a tonsillectomy. The procedure is much simpler and, unless you’ve had lots of problems with your tonsils necessitating removal, tonsillectomy is unnecessary and carries higher risks and a much longer recovery.

can you get hpv from french kissing? have a 2mm tonsil growth. gp said papilloma. do not have hpv that i know of. 45f married 20 years. no other sex partners aside from kissing maybe 5 others before husband. see ent next week. hpv risk? what else?

: HPV is not usually transmitted by kissing. Your throat papilloma isn't necessarily due to HPV or, if it is, a sexually transmitted type. Glad you're seeing ENT; discuss with them. Good luck.

Interesting: Tonsil papillomas are viral infections, but they do not explain the tooth pain. Hpv types 6, 8, 11, and 13 are known to increase cancer risk.  Your symptoms as indicated do not indicate cancer, but typing the kind you have and going for biannual oral cancer screenings are wise in order to prevent or identify early conditions. The tooth pain could be something else. Get evaluated by a dentist.

Yes, possibly.: Some oral papillomas are triggered / caused by hpv infection.  Studying the papilloma under the microscope and/or using molecular testing for hpv genetic material (dna) would help to determine if hpv is the cause of a particular papilloma.

Possibly.: Some (but not all) oral / oropharyngeal papillomas are caused by hpv.  The best way to determine whether or not a specific lesion is hpv mediated is to have it removed and studied in a pathology laboratory.  Having it removed will also help to ensure that there are no precancerous (dysplastic) changes or malignancy present.  Hope this helps.

Adenoids regrow: Tonsils usually do not regrow but adenoids have propensity to reappear. It is more difficult to remove entire adenoid tissue.
