what's best way to help a raw tongue after eating salty foods? everytime i eat salty food or peanut butter or spicy food or anything acidic even if it's just a little the side of my tongue gets raw and hurts salt water usually helps and it goes away?

Accepted Answer

: Rinse with a combination of half a cup of hydrogen peroxide and water. Also you can rinse with a non alcoholic mouthwash. Another trick, brush tongue with a fluoride toothpaste. Salty foods are not good, leads to high blood pressure.

after eating salty foods like chips or popcorn my lips,  tongue and throat swell up. sometimes hard to breath. what could i be allergic to? is it bad?

It May be Serious: You need to stop eating these foods and see an allergist for an evaluation. You may be very allergic to something, either the food itself or possibly a preservative. Any time you have swelling and difficulty breathing it could be very serious and if an allergy could lead to a potentially fatal reaction. You should have Benadryl (diphenhydramine) with you at all times and take it right away if you get swelling.

Just a sensation: While there are pain sensors on the tongue, certain foods may accidentally "fire" the nerves that carry pain. So, it may be that very spicy or bitter or sour foods trigger "cross over" into the other nerves. The same goes for hot and cold.

Oral Discomfort: This is a difficult question to answer without a thorough oral examination.  Tongue discomfort may be caused by a myriad of issues.  Did you recently eat any very spicy or hot (temperature) foods?  Your symptoms may also be caused by herpetic lesions, canker sores, or tongue biting.  Please meet with your dentist or an oral surgeon immediately for an oral examination and oral cancer screening!

Chemical burn: sounds like either chemical burn or possible local allergic reaction. Can try toothpaste or mouth rinse for sensitive teeth which may help. Your doctor can prescribe mouth rinse viscous lidocaine, Benadryl, (diphenhydramine) and mylanta or Maalox which may help. Only time will heal tongue. Hope this helps. Best of luck. Dr. R

Virus?: A virus may cause apthous ulcers and/or stomatits, which is often self-limiting and will resolve in time or faster possibly with tx. Could be bacterial infection also, so if severe, always best to have dr. Properly diagnose you.  Good luck.

Kidney Pain?: Hard to know if it is actually your kidney that is sore.  Need to discuss this with a kidney specialist/urologist.  There are many reasons for pain in the side/flank that may or may not be due to a kidney problem.

after eating fast food i felt a little bit of burning on my tongue. now i noticed white dots and some pinkish bumps and reddish parts on the edges. i've geographic tongue, what could this be?

: What you described could be a normal appearance of tongue. Unless you have noticed a change in appearance of your tongue, you may just watch and wait.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

hi there, recently i have realised that after eating certain types of fruits /food my tongue gets swollen and i feel like i have tonsils.what could it be? now i have been taking allergex but i'm becoming worried.

Better avoid: The culprit fruits/foods and keep an antihistamine handy in case of accidental exposure. You need to see an allergist for evaluation and management, good luck
