what can i do for painful tongue fissures? i have an appt on the 25th, but until then i would like to eat. right now eating makes my tongue burn badly

Antacid & Physician: Rinsing your mouth with a liquid antacid can help with the burning, but it only makes you more comfortable, it doesn't fix the problem. Beside seeing a dentist, you should see your physician and get checked for diabetes, a common cause of burning tongues. Another cause can be an excessively dry mouth.

Fissured tongue: This is usually a variation of normal and requires no treatment other than extra care to keep it clean with a tongue scraper or a tooth brush used on a daily basis. If you have any other problems or questions, you should see an oral surgeon for a consultation.

Reflux?: This could possibly be a problem called 'geographic tongue'  usually caused by reflux.  You should have a physician look at it to be sure and possibly get some treatment.

is it normal to have a crack in your tongue? i have one crack on the top of my tongue toward the tip. ive read about fissures, but i only have one and it seems like with fissures you have many. i didnt bite or damage my tongue?

Fissured Tongue: I have never heard of any method to improve or reduce the appearance of a fissured tongue.  I am assuming there are no medical or systemic complicating factors.  Keep your mouth clean and consider using both antimicrobial rinses and a tongue brush or scraper to keep your tongue clean to prevent an bacterial or fungal overgrowths.

Fissured tongue: Most patients with fissured tongue have no significant symptoms and the fissures are mostly cosmetic.  There are a couple of syndromes where fissures are common, such as Down's syndrome and Melkerson-Rosenthall syndrome.  If this is the case, the best form of treatment is usually to regularly brush the tongue to removed debris and avoid irritation.  If you are having symptoms,  see your doctor.

in the past couple months i have developed a fissured tongue. it is worrisome. its around the front edges of my tongue. why would it suddenly develop? i also have some white patches on back of tongue. can i fix this problem?
