Most likely stress.: Most likely your pain is from bruxism(clenching or grinding your teeth).  The amount of bruxing is directly proportional to the amount of stress you are under.  "tmj" has become a catchall for all jaw pain.  It actually refers to pain in the joint.  Most other pain is due to muscle, teeth or nerves.  There is a fine balance among all areas.  You should see your dentist to determine the source.

Eye exam: You are very specific about tmjoint problem but, very general of having eye problem. Eyes have to physically be checked. Your Dr will determine if there is any link.

i have had an ache and discomfort on the right side of my head, face, jaw and neck that has been going on for a long time now everyday. tmj has been ruled out. can this be caused by a circulation problem?

: Vascular insufficiency less likely presents with those symptoms. I suspect a neuropathic condition so you should be evaluated by a neurologist if you have not seen one.

: No, TMJ dysfunction does not causes loss of vision, double vision, or any other effect upon the eyes.  See an oral surgeon or a dentist who deals with jaw problems,  to obtain an opinion regarding appropriate intervention.

: Certainly, severe trauma could result in fracture, but more commonly, TMJ joint dislocates, and compromises jaw opening, chewing, and talking.  This does not affect the eyes or esophagus.  If you have issues of this sort, contact a dentist ASAP.

TMJ: Tmj can be attributed to a multitude of symptoms.
Muscle spasms can cause constriction of nerves which can cause pain in areas remote from the joints. That being said, a neurologist should be seen to rule out a neurological problem.
