Cartilage injections: As of this date the technology does not exist for us to inject cartilage into the joint and give patients any lasting real relief.   Total joint replacements are the hold standard technique for giving patient long lasting improved motion and pain relief.

Normal: Stiffness is the most common complaint after tkr.  Keep working both flexion (bending) as well as extension (going straight ). Straight is more important now.

TKR Loosening : Loosening of any joint implant is an urgent condition. It could lead to displacement of the implant, pain, bone fracture, and loss of function. I suggest that you return to your surgeon ASAP to get this addressed.

Short term pain: Tkr is a very good option if your knee arthritis keeps you from activity that you want to do. Recovery is fairly quick and you should expect to have fairly normal activity in 2-3 months. As long as the surgery goes well you should not expect any disability after recovery.

Getting better: 9 weeks after knee replacement you should be making good progress on your range of motion.  0-120 degrees should be expected.  Pain should be subsiding.  Weakness can persist, and increasing exercises can be done to help. If stiffness lingers, increase stretching exercise frequency.  If swelling recurs, occasionally elevate the leg above heart and head for 20 min, or wear compressive hose.

Maybe 1-3 % or so.: Its getting less and less frequently done. I may have done maybe twice in the last 17 yrs or so, but saw it done during my training 10-12 times in about 2 years.
You had a tib plateau fx, so you have had at least 3 surgeries (fixation of the fx, removal of hardware & tkr), so you have had plenty of scar tissue, to require manipulations.

No specific feeling: Actually, loosening components may not have any specific presentation.  In many cases, it could be symptom free, and only detected on x-ray/imaging.  In other cases, pain, swelling, and instability may be the presenting symptoms.  Annual check-ups with your orthopedic surgeon for exam and x-rays is the best way to detect progressive component loosening.

About 1 month: Pain can be very intense in some people and very shallow in others. But most of the patients will have significant pai the first 2 weeks post-op. If there is no complications after surgery  pain will start to decrease after about 1 month after surgery.
