Carpal tunnel is: Associated with altered sensation in the thumb, index, middle and part of the ring. It can affect the muscles of the thumb. Symtpoms can be intermittent, occasional or severe and long standing. Testing such as a nerve study/emg is often used to aid diagnosis and gauge severity. Treatment can range from splinting to injectons and even surgery.A very common disorder; many function well despite it.

Wouldn't worry yet: If it lasts or you have swelling of the arm, if there's significant discoloration, or if it gets worse, seek medical attention.
If it's only what you describe, i wouldn't worry- i'd just watch it.

Not really: But, did you develop the symptoms in the A.M., after sleeping on your arm?  Saturday night palsy affecting the radial nerve in the upper arm?  Have your detox folks look at this, as it may well be readily reversible or secondary to alternative nerve issue.

Wow ... that's an: unusual association!  One might speculate that a change in position in your low back/lumbar spine when you sit on the toilet might cause some nerve compression but it's hard to imagine this effect in the upper spine where nerves to arms/hands exit. Perhaps this is a valsalva (push to urinate) effect, though hard to imagine, too. I can only suggest discussion with your doctor/probably a Neurologist

See doctor: Have discussed this with your doctor? Could be early signs of heart disease.  It could also be some nerve issue.  Call your doctor.

Sushi: No. May be you need to see psychiatrist if symptoms continue. Pcp may help to investigate why you have such reaction.

Radiculopathy: It sounds like a disc has herniated in your neck or some other issues closing off the opening your nerve roots run through to exit the cervical spine. These are classic symptoms and I recommend seeing a physician sooner than later to identify if there is anything emergent or surgical necessity to avoid arm paralysis. You may not need anything but a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack, but get checked to be sure.

Not ER: This is anxiety or panic or stress. You do not need to go to the er.  But, please go see your family physician to discuss ways to manage your stress better.

Needs evaluation.: Your friend needs a neurological work-up.  Multiple sclerosis comes to mind as a worst-case-scenario.  Could also be a vitamin deficiency with resultant neuropathy.  Regardless, this should be investigated.
