Q: when a child has tight heel cords & toe walks, how old is "too old" for serial casting to be effectv?

Usually < 2years old: Tight heel cords can cause toe walking. However, a condition called tethered cord, where the spinal cord is attached to the base of the spine and stretches the spinal cord can result in later toe walking and decreased reflexes in older child. Mri to rule out tethered cord is important before serial casting or other treatment is undertaken. Tethered cord requires neurosurgery to the cord.

Tight heel cords: Not clear when you say you can't feel the stretching whether you can't feel ANYTHING in your ankles/feet or just can't feel that. If you haven't done these things already, consider seeing a physiatrist &amp;/or a physical therapist for evaluation and recommendations. Also surgical tendon release is done in some cases. 3 toes losing : Sensation is something to be concerned about and you should see a doctor for evaluation. Any low back issues/pain? Any medical history? Without seeing a picture of your skin issue, I can offer that it may be herniated fat which is not an issue.

Sounds strained...: at times it can be strained by wearing shoes without a back as that tendon will work harder to pull the bottom of your heel to the shoe during gait. Your sit-up position may have further aggravated it

Equinus: After sitting for awhile or after sleep our calf muscles, achilles tendon and plantar fascia tighten. When we get up first steps in the am or after sitting we expect them to have the flexibility and stretch that we need to walk. However, in some cases tight musclegroups or tendons and fascia require additional stretching and in some cases a night splint. Getting on a stretching program will help.
