how does accutane cause nail changes?

Dries nails: Skin and nails are related in their ectodermal origin. Accutane dries the skin and can dry nails causing them to be brittle.Nails can be slow growing. But it will take several months for the new healthy nail to grow out. Paronychia, infection of  nail folds, usually with staph. Aureus occurs in ingrown , chewed or picked nails. With discontinuance of drug, nails eventually heal.

Growth: Many women notice one pleasant side effect of pregnancy is faster growth of hair and fingernails.  Certainly the extra nutrients in your prenatal vitamins might also have something to do with it.  But in the meantime, pamper yourself with an manicure!

HIV: Sounds like you're having some pretty common health annoyances &amp; are worried they're due to HIV. First, the chance of of getting HIV from 1 encounter is very low (1 in 1250 exposures for vaginal penetration). The oral HIV tests are pretty accurate (about 92%) but to be extra sure and give you peace of mind, call your gyn or PCP to get a blood test. It's quick and confidential. Good luck!

Yes. It is entirely: possible that your mole would bleed if traumatized. If your Dermatologist has been checking it there is not much to worry about. If necessary, put a bandaid over it for a few days to avoid additional trauma.

Toenails: Your medical history is complicated. The problem with your toenails has many possible causes have them evaluated by a dermatologist. It could be due to an infectious (bacterial or fungal) , or immunologic, or physical etiology. The burning may or may not be related to the cracking of your nails.

Do U have diabetes?: Diabetes can promote gastroparesis, as well as affect growth and health of nails &amp; hair.
