Number of things: It could be an allergy, a systemic problem or a nerve problem.  I would suggest seeing your physician to rule out a systemic problem like vitamin b deficiency and maybe consider seeing an oral medicine specialist.  It could be what is called burning tongue.

Thrush visable coat: Thrush as a diagnosis would be applied to a milk like coating on the inner membranes of the mouth, not just the tongue & usually occurs in patches. Absent those patches, your kid probably just likes the soothing feeling of rubbing those areas.

See your dentist: Make sure this is thrush versus another infection.  Oral thrush is usually white and is due to a fungus called candida and is treated with antifungal medications.

White coating: It may or may not be oral candidiasis (thrush). Many people have white coatings caused only by the accumulation of plaque, food debris and dead cells. Try using your toothbrush or a tongue scraper to remove any coating once per day. If it&#x27;s gone, great. If not, you will need to see a dentist or physician for a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment, if needed.
