They shouldn't: I take them and they don't taste metallic to me. Different people will taste the same things differently though so it may seem a bit metallic to you. If you experience a metallic taste in your mouth in general then it could be caused by taking certain meds or a vitamin deficiency.

Possibly: See how you feel after a few days. If you have silver fillings or crowns in your mouth, the different metals may have interacted to cause the taste. Certain medications also cause a metalic taste.

Metallic taste: metallic taste may be due to leaking filling, decay, gum disease, diabetes, neurologic change, failure to floss daily, GERD, change in meds/vitamins/supplements, diabetes, and a whole host of other reasons. Please see your Dentist for an evaluation. Bad taste may or may not be related to other symptoms.

Galvanism: You may be running a current in your mouth. This is called galvanism. When 2 different metals in the mouth create a current.

Snoring?: If you sleep with someone else, ask them if you have recently begun snoring at night?  If so, that may make you feel like you're choking.  Also, have you gained weight lately?  That may also be a factor.  Lastly, you may be getting sick, and/or have a sub-clinical infection only manifesting at night in the form of a sore throat.

More history: Usually "dysgeusia" with an odd metallic taste is from taking medications (even calcium carbonate) or "just happens" & is never explained.  I trust you are otherwise well & do not have occupational exposure to lead, mercury, or cadmium.  Try running floss across your tongue, and using plastic utensils.

Might be GERD: Be sure to have your doctor check you out for gastric reflux - your dry cough may be the result of irritated tissue in your throat. Stomach acid can create small patches of throat lining that are inflamed and cause a chronic cough. Metallic taste can also be from stomach acids on your taste buds.

One common reason for gerd is sleep apnea, so if you snore, ask questions about that also.

  Most common instance when patients present with metallic taste is symptomatic of Acute Necrotizing Ulcerative Gingivitis. Usually the gums are painful and bleed, their is ulceration of inter-dental papillae. foul breath and a metallic taste.
