Probably: Doe to retained clot and a small ulceration in the overlying skin. Usually this is not new fresh bleeding but the result of the body trying to dissolve the solid clot for reabsorption but as the clot is gradually liquified it leaks out through the ulceration. It is usually not dangerous but can cause a nuisance of spotting for 7-10 days or until the clot is gone.

Accepted Answer

No: Not all anal bleedings are due to hemorrhoids. There are so many other reasons like fissure, diverticulosis, ischemic colitis, avmalformation, crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, perforated peptic ulcer, drug effect and cancer etc. It is serious matter and should be addressed on emergency basis. Usually painful: Thrombosed hemorrhoids are usually quite painful.  

The best thing to do would be to have it evaluated by a general surgeon or a colorectal surgeon.  

I am sure that there is a hospital near you that would have a person you could see.  You could see him/her as an outpatient.

how much/how often is bleeding normal for hemmorhoids? maybe gone from internal to partial prolapse? full eval normal, just tiny polyp + superficial inflam, but frequent bleeding still gross/scary!

Medication: First of all you will need formal anoscopy- visualization of the rectum and anus. Next ask your physician for a prescription for string rectal cream with hydrocortisone. Try sitz baths 3x/day- ( google). If bleeding does not resolved the hemorroids must be removed.

my wife has rectal bleeding that comes and goes. she went to a nurse practitioner and found no hemmorhoids. what could cause this?

Go see GI: If there is no evidence of hemorrhoids...It is time to go see GI and let them take a look. She may need to be scoped to look for sources of the bleeding. More than likely it is benign, but it is worth getting it checked to know for sure.

Bleeding: There could be a connection however if you have not had the rectal bleeding evaluated, i would contact your physician and do so.

Proctalgia fugax: Meaning fleeting pain in rectum. Can be a normal phenomenon or a problem with muscle spasm. If it persists for more than a few weeks, evaluation by a gastroenterologist or colon/rectal surgeon may be in order. Meanwhile use a stool softener to keep your bowels soft. Perhaps: Bleeding always needs an explanation! at age 27, an external hemorrhoid which has ruptured is quite likely, but the symptoms should go away in a week or so. If bleeding persists beyond this, or is accompanied by increasing pain, fever-go and see your doc asap.
