Runner's knee: There are several possible causes of your knee symptoms including simple heavy physical activity of running 4 miles, chondromalacia,,damaged cartilage under the kneecap from overuse,or iliotibial band syndrome. An orthopedic specialist can evaluate and advise you. Orthotics for your running footwear may be recommended.

RICE: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation are the standard treatment recommendations for strains of any joint.  If the pain persists, particularly if you find you have difficulty bearing weight on the leg, I would not hesitate to be seen for it.

Many things: If you have no pain walking, unless you walk very slowly, poor circulation seems unlikely.  Most of my patients experience more pain when they go to bed, what ever the condition happens to be.  I think that is because we are distracted during the day and we aggravate many conditions with daily activities, so it hurts more when we go to bed.  You may have arthritis, a pinched nerve, a torn meniscus
