i'm recovering from flu no longer have fever. my throat feels like it's being cut open by a knife. is this left over illness? should i go back to dr?

Not Necessarily: If you continue to get better and the sharp pain goes away you can skip a return visit. I believe, though, that your peace of mind is worth the trouble of a followup if common sense inclines you in that direction.

Seasonal flu: is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. NSAIDs (e.g. Aleve, Advil) or Tylenol (acetaminophen) are also recommended every 6 hours. If concerned, see your PCP for examination.

Vague: Hard to say without a history and an exam.  I would consider seeing an ENT specialist to check your throat to make sure nothing is lodged in there, etc.

Sounds like: you are not producing enough saliva, one of its functions is to provide enough lubrication for dry foods before you swallow.  There are many conditions, some of them serious, that can cause dry mouth, so you should consult your doctor.

See ER: I don't know what amount of copper, a shard or a small flat piece but you may have made a laceration of the pharynx or esophagus. Best to go to and ER have them see how you upper go looks and problem get an X-ray to locate the copper

Have it examined: Blood vessels can look very much like a cut on that secion of the throat. If you are feeling something it would be a good idea to have a doctor examine the area to be sure things are ok.

Probable Virus: More than likely you have a viral sore throat.  It could have associated fever, a white covering on the tonsils and back of the throat, swollen lymph glands in the neck, under the jaw and you could even have a rash.  Strep throat could do the same.  If you have not ingested anything to cut or abrade the throat or back of throat, then viral would come to mind, though others could cause this.

Maybe a scratch: If having trouble breathing, you may need the heimlich but i doubt it since you are taking the time to write this question. Long after you eat, a minor scratch can cause the persistent sensation of a foreign body in the throat. If this repeatedly occurs, a more thorough evaluation of possible motility disorders with a swallowing study may be indicated. 
For now, drink some fluids or soft solids.

Need eval....: In order to diagnose this problem, you need to see a GI doctor. They can take a look down your esophagus and into your stomach and see what is causing your symptoms. During this test, you are sedated and won't remember even having the test done. Ask your family doctor for a GI referral. Once diagnosed, treatment can begin to hopefully get rid of your discomfort.
