Trocanteric bursitis: See your othopedic surgeon for a steroid injection. It may take two or three injections but you will be much better and you will sleep well again.

Cramps: Recurrent muscle cramps or spasms may be caused by deficiencies of calcium or magnesium. Sometimes they are due to excessive muscle tightness caused by various muscle activities during the day. In this case stretching maneuvers of the legs before going to bed may prevent the nocturnal spasms. You could also take a magnesium supplement daily. See your physician as needed.

Nerve pain: BriB352 - this sounds like a nerve related issue related to your positioning. Nerve compression can occur either in the spine or along it's path down your leg and is often influenced by the physical position you maintain (laying down, sitting, exercise, etc). Symptoms may resolve with a position change. If not, seeking evaluation may be helpful to identify where the issue is(central vs.peripheral)

i have been having constant leg pain. my calf, my thigh, and my lower back. at night it's the worst and i can't sleep. any ideas as to what i can do?

Sound like sciatica: You should seek an evaluation by your pcp, it could be you have you have irritation of a nerve root however being so young i doubt it.You may need to have an emg(electromyogram) that should ruleout that codition easily.

I would recommend that you be seen in urgent care as soon as possible. I am unsure exactly what is going on just based on your brief description, but you require a full evaluation and physical exam, especially since your symptoms seem to be severely affecting your daily activities. Tonic water: If it is cramps try a glass of tonic water daily.  You can also use Bengay or myoflex ( no smell) prior to going to bed.  If ok with your doctor and other health concerns a daily aspirin can also help.  Good luck

Depends: The location of the pain (joint or between joints), whether it feels better to move it or not, whether the pain radiates or spreads to other areas, and what makes it better or worse are all questions your doctor will ask to try to determine the likely cause of your pain. See your doctor if it continues or worsens over a few days.

You : You haven't said anything about your age, gender, medical history, or overall state of health, so it's a little tough for me to narrow things down, but there are some things that would explain this.

Given the snowfall in seattle over the past few days, have you maybe been doing some shoveling of snow or maybe some skiing or other vigorous physical activity?  Could you have slipped while walking on the ice? Overuse of muscles or trauma might cause pain that wakes you up. A muscle cramp might also cause this type of localized pain.

If you have a history of vascular disease, or are at risk for it (older age group, high cholesterol, smoker or diabetic) then this could represent a blocked blood vessel. Do you have ongoing pain?  Numbness? Are your symptoms increased with exercise?  If so, then you should be evaluated for compromised blood flow.

Pinched nerve: It is possible that you have pinched a nerve or have a bulging disk in your spine that is pushing on a nerve.  If it is in you buttock it could be your sciatic nerve. If it is in the front i your leg it could be the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.  That is related to a syndrome called meralgia parasthetica.
