purging since 2011. see psychiatrist and therapist. i know i need to stop; it's bad for me. i don't want to stop. how do i get myself to want to stop?

Why not?: Why don't you want to stop purging?  Maybe you have some very good reasons for wanting to continue, that you've not shared with your psychiatrist or therapist.  Secrecy is very common in people who purge.  Know that the choice to discuss all your behavior is yours alone, but it's the best way to heal.  What are your fears if you stop?  Know that by dying, your body can eventually stop you.

Internet, fam. dr, +: First you can ask your family MD  to rrecomend a theraist/psychiatrist.  You can go to the  Internet and identify your area and  search for psychiatirst or therapist.  Usually psychiatrist have a web sight and you can become familiar with the doctors qualification, experience and training and area of speciality.  In addition you can call the APA/ AACAP and request assistantance in finding a  MD.

No, but it's good to: This may not always be the case, but in many places psychiatrists are so busy they barely have time to ask about the medication. A therapist will spend significantly more time getting to know you and to coach you through your efforts to change. They'll listen carefully and help you discover ways to live better. I'm biased - but I think it's a good thing.

Medications: Generally, when he or she thinks a psychotropic medication may be needed in addition to (or in rare cases, instead of) your counseling or therapy.

Online Medicare: One of the requirements for Medicare online coverage is that the pt.  Be in a healthcare facility, doctor’s office, nursing home, hospital, or the like for coverage.  Medicare advantage plans MAY have different requirements from traditional Medicare.  Please contact your carrier and ask.  Peace and good health.

You can search: You can search for appropriate psychiatrists, psychologists, and other therapists by starting with your insurance company.  Unfortunately, insurance companies may list practitioners who are not actually on their panels.  Other potentially fruitful resources include http://www.Psychologytoday.Com/ -- you can search for therapists and/or psychiatrists there. Good referrals may also be from friends!

a prior dr & now my current therapist thinks i have bpd, but my psychiatrist doesnt want to acknowledge a new diagnoses. what should i do?

Focus: Believe it or not, the bpd diagnosis is not as important as implementing the coping skills you will be taught in therapy. Focus on using the skills such as mindfulness, CBT reframing, and increasing your positive social group to feel more interconnected. You're probably suffering from both anxiety and depressive symptoms if bpd is possibly on the table. You just focus on implementing those skills

my friend is not willing to see a psychiatrist because of the stigma behind big pharmas "influence" on medication and only wants to see a therapist?

Therapist: Please encourage your friend to see a licensed therapist, e.g., a counselor, clinical psychologist, or social worker.  If your friend still resists that he/she may be simply looking for an excuse and may find another reason.  Our health and peace of mind is more important than stigma, which is quickly fading anyway.  Not all psychological conditions are helped by medication although some are.

is a good mental health therapist as good as a psychiatrist for ocd?

They are different: A psychiatrist is an md that has gone through medical school. He/she will evaluate your symptoms, rule out possible medical reasons for your symptoms and prescribe treatment which may involve both medications and psychotherapy. A good therapist does not have medical training but is experienced in psychotherapy. They can recommend therapy but may end up referring you to a psychiatrist for evaluatio.

How about yout PCP: Let your PCP help you with either/ot medication or therapy.......primary care docs prescribe about 75% of anti-depressants anyway.  Your PCP is always a good place to start
