There could be: If you have been constipated and are not passing stool regularly, this can cause stool to build up in the intestines. That in turn can lead to increased weight.

five month old stooling four times a day. he is at 60% for weight and 90% for height, no apparent weight problems. could this be malabsorption?

May be normal: If your baby is breastfeeding, four stools daily is entirely normal.  If on formula, this may still be normal. If the stools are odorous and loose, it may suggest a lactose intolerance if he/she is on a dairy-based formula, however.   In any case it does not sound like malabsorption as his growth is entirely appropriate at this time.  Do talk to your doctor about your concerns.

hi i am scared, i have lost5-7kg in weight my stools are like droplets, my bloods have come back are normal my dr says not to worry please help?

: Your weight is higher than a desired . Try to reduce your intake of food by about one third, not easy, but necessary. Make a diary recording all you eat and drink, for two weeks and then reduce, as you can manage.
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol or street drugs.

Stools: Usually soon after eating one needs to pass stools - this is normal. Perhaps you should eat a good breakfast in the morning. This will probably result in a good bowel motion. Having a bowel motion alone should not make you feel hungry.

Darker stool : Could indicate blood in stool or iron intake or dietary changes. Need heme occult stools

Maybe melena?: "Melena" is passage of stools stained dark by with denatured blood. As we established in prior healthtap answers, all dark stool is not melena. Your doctor, or even an over-the-counter test that you can purchase, can check to see if your dark stool contains blood. False positive results can occur based on diet &amp; stool additives. Nausea w/ dark stool however raises suspicion 4 stomach inflammation.

if i can take stool softeners to lose weight, should i take them?

Not for that reason: There is no meaningful or long-term weight loss with stool softeners--only temporary laxation of stool and maybe loss of some "water".  A healthy and long-term approach to weight loss (and keeping the weight off once lost) is consistently making good food choices (avoid high-calorie density foods that are high in fat and processed sugars), minimize snacking, control portion size, and exercise.
