2 reasons: Three seperate causes in my opinion.  The first is almost no use of birth control (ie condoms).  The second is that virtually all males are uncircumscribed.  Hiv virus has an affinity for langerhans cells in the foreskin epithelium in males.  Thirdly....The unavailability of HIV meds..So its an epidemic without the availability of treatment.

Is sex a ritual?: For the most part, HIV isnt' spread by rituals, unless you consider sex and sharing needles "rituals."  i suppose there could be true rituals that might spread hiv, such as scarification or tattooing using unclean needles or knives, but that would account for a small proportion of transmissions.

Homework question: This is for a "contemporary social theory" course, I take it. Some of these are helpful; others are ideological indoctrination. In the poor nations, rape and forced marriage transmit AIDS. That is the reality. I wish that more people card or talked straight about a terrible situation.

This virus can be spread from person to person through sexual content in which fluids and cells from one person enter the body of another person (vaginal, anal and oral intercourse).  The virus can also be spread by sharing contaminated needles from injection drug use.  Always use a condom with sex and do not share needles!

Several african countries are seeing a substantial degrees in the incidence of HIV infection whereas there are other parts of the world where it is increasing.  So many are working on this.
