why does the side of my hand hurt from lower palm to wrist.

Not sure?: You didn't say whether it is your thumb side or little finger side which hurts.  Possible causes include nerve entrapment(carpal tunnel or ulnar nerve entrapment). Overuse tendinitis, arthritis.  These are all common causes.  Less common causes would be circulation problems, raynauds or other type of rheumatoid like syndrome.  If it keeps up get it checked out by a hand surgeon.

Strain: You could have pulled the muscles and tendons on that side (abductor carpi). I would rest as much as possible, take some anti-inflammatories such as advil/ibuprofen first (with food) and if does not improve in few days see a doc.

the outer side of my right hand hurts.although i have not hit/slammed my hand on anything, what might be the problem?

Side...: we say thumb side or pinky side. thumb side is carpal tunnel. pinky side is funny bone or a neck problem. both could be from neck or underarm area for a nerve pinch, but carpal tunnel is really really common. all of us here at healthtap have carpal tunnel.

Tendon irriation: Try mild antiinflammatory medicine like Advil or Aleve, (naproxen) if you are not allergic. I advise a pull on wrist support for 1 week.

Boxer fracture?: You may have a boxers fracture. Should get an X-ray and manage based upon the X-ray.

Minor trauma?: This usually is due to minor trauma, often unnoticed. You might develop a bruise, if the injury broke a blood vessel. In any case, this doesn't sound at all serious and should clear up in a couple of days. Contact a doctor (or maybe see your school nurse) if it doesn't. IN the meantime, don't worry.

Hand pain. : The hand contains muscles, ligaments, bones, nerves, skin, and blood vessels.  Anyone of these this can be a problem. I need more information.  In a young man with hand pain, I often ask about the overuse of the hand. For example, overuse of the hand using a smartphone. The other reason for pain in that part is an injury from punching something.  See your doctor.

YouGot It HandsDown: Sounds like what's called "carpal tunnel syndrome." That's when a sensory nerve that goes into your hand is squeezed in a small tunnel in your wrist. The cause? There are many, talk to the doctor about that. There are a few things they can do for it up to and including surgery. Depends on how bad it is. It may be something else, but that's my educated guess.

Hand tingling: Most likely cause is an injury to the nerve in the wrist call the median nerve. Commonly called carpal tunnel syndrome. Can be associated with thyroid disease and othe medical conditions. Also can express itself during pregnancy. Very common if you do repetitive gripping and fine work with hand.  If you are waking up with it get a wrist slimy from store and straighten it flat. Wear at night.

See DR: You may have just bruised the hand, or you might have a undisplaced fracture.

Only way to tell is with an xray.

Next time punch a pillow, it will give you psychological relief without the patin.
