May be ur thyroid: It could be a goiter (small or large mass on the neck), thyroid nodules, or cancer or something else. You should go to your primary care doctor and get bloodwork (tsh, t3, (liothyronine) t4) and get an ultrasound of the throat area and possible biopsy.. With weight gain, i would suspect you may have hypothyroidism, which goes along with the goiter. It may also be nothing. It is hard to say online.

Need evaluation: You may have inflammation of the thyroid glad that is causing these symptoms.  You need to be examined by a physician and may need lab tests to diagnose the issue.

GERD: You may have gastroesophageal reflux disease. As you sleep, the acid can breach the phincter between your stomach and throat and the reflux irritates the lining of your throat.  Talk to your doc about possible proton pump inhibitor. Aldo consider putting spacers under head of bed. Other causes could be viral illness,  post nasal drainage and sinuses, or dry throat from sleep apnea. Hope it helps!

Several things.: There could be an infection, either strep or a virus.  These would usually be accompanied by other symptoms.  It could be from irritation if you are a smoker or a person who shouts a lot.  Or i've known people who complain of sore throat (or headache, or diarrhea, etc.) when they are very stressed.  See what else is going on with you, then consider seeing your doctor.  Good luck.

Concerning: At your age, there is reason to be concerned about cancerous lesions forming that are mostly caused by aggressive strains of human papilloma virus (hpv). If you still have your tonsils, it could be an infectious process on that side. You could even have throat pain on one side with laryngopharyngeal reflux, a type of acid reflux. You should go in as soon as possible for a laryngoscopy by an ent.

Time: Most sore throats are due to viral infections that won't respond to antibiotics, just time. Use centor criteria to determine if more likely to have strep throat that does respond to antibiotics. If not sure, we use rapid strep test +/- throat culture.

Could be anything: Throat pain could be due to post nasal drip, a viral infection, strep throat or other bacteria, reflux, or a variety of other issues. If the pain persists or you develop other symptoms, see your doctor.
