i need help with my dandruff.i am 18 and facing chronic dandruff and it has grown much that i gets around my  ears.tried herbal and shampoo ?

Maybe not dandruff: Dandruff is a fungal infection of the skin and should respond to otc shampoo like selsun blue.  Mistakes i see are not using the shampoo regularly, you need to use it every day for a week before you should expect results.  If you still notice symptoms it may be eczema, which will not clear with anti-dandruff shampoo.  Rather, you will need to try t-gel, or similar.  A dermatologist can help.

Yes: Leave on for 10- 15 mins before getting into shower, use daily and rotate shampoos, using a tar based/nizeral/headnshoulders if not helpful see a dermatologist.

Maybe not dandruff: Dandruff shampoos actually work quite well if picking the right one and that the problem is truly dandruff-- excessive shedding of dead skin cells on scalp caused by a scalp-specific fungus, malassezia globosa. If otc trials of several shampoos w/o success, consult doc for eval--possible causes such as psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis/eczema etc... Good luck to you.

Shampoos: it depends on what type it is . if it is a steroid containing shampoo, to be on the safe side, limit it to 3 times a week. other shampoos can theoretically be used daily but patients generally do not like the look of the hair after daily use of anti dandruff shampoos. consider them a medication and use three times weekly. consult your doctor if that does not relieve your condition.

Need stronger meds: Dandruff is also known as seborrheic dermatitis but psoriasis can closely resemble this condition.  It would be best to be evaluated since you have tried several over the counter shampoos with little success.  It is important to keep the scalp hydrated and moisturized as well.  If you do have seborrheic dermatitis, you might need a stronger shampoo and treatment to aid in removing the flakes.

Dandruff: They all may help dandruff but Nizoral (ketoconazole) is a good antifungal (nizral).

See doctor: Sometimes an anti-fungal lotion may help.  I presume that you may have seborrhea as well.  Another approach would be to reduce the use of this shampoo to just 2x a week and see if this helps.

See a doc: See your family physicians or dermatologist who can prescribe a cortisone lotion to help with your dandruff. How often do you wash your hair? If you wash it in frequently that bes be 1 of the reasons why you are not better.
