Look for features: Some features are important. Shoes should not make a senior more likely to fall down (broken hip can be fatal). Shoes should encourage a senior to walk for exercise. Shoes should be easy to get on and off, such as loafers or shoes with velcro fasteners (arthritic hands don't like tying shoe laces).

Not heels!: Fibromyalgia, as defined by the american college of rheumatology, does not include foot pain.  That being said, patients with fms can still have foot pain.  I recommend a supportive shoe with a minimal heel, and arch support if you tend to "overpronate".  Pace your standing/walking with rest breaks. Find a skilled shoe-fitter that will take the time to find a shoe you are comfortable wearing.

You have extremely little risk.
