is it ok to continue cpap/apap for sleep apnea if you get covid? i have mild sleep apnea, concerned about pushing the virus further into the lungs with the high pressure if it's stuck in your nose?

: CPAP would not push virus deeper into the lungs. If you need CPAP keep using it, as tolerated. If you develop breathing difficulty while awake, see a doctor or go to a hospital.
Losing weight, if you are overweight is imperative.

It depends: The pressure is selected  with a CPAP titration which is part of a sleep study. A CPAP machine can be set with variable pressure to adjust to changes during sleep. Common settings are 8 to 11 cm of water.

Bipap better: Bipap blows two at two pressures--a higher one to facilitate inhaling, then drops lower on exhale, so it is easier. CPAP blows continuously at one pressure for operational simplicity.

The difference: CPAP and BIPAP are both used to help patients with sleep apnea and other respirator disorder. With CPAP there is continuous pressure on the airways during inspiration and expiration. With BIPAP the settings are variable so that there can be a different pressures in inspiration ad expiration. BIPAP may make it easier for some patients to tolerate the airway pressures.

40 or so: Re-evaluate the CPAP after as little as 20 lbs and certainly after 40lbs.  Most people actually can completely stop the CPAP a few months after the Sleeve.  Ask your sleep doctor if you can use a self-titrating machine at home while you are rapidly losing, or if he prefers to do a formal study after 40 lbs and again when you are at your new stable weight.

Not how it works: CPAP provides pressure to keep your airway from collapsing. Oxygen flowing is not the same thing.

problem i have with cpap is it dont help me and ill wake up multiple times trying to catch my breath suffocating and how do i know if  right pressure?

Sleep MD: If you have CPAP you have probably been evaluated by a sleep MD. Return to the sleep doc for evaluation. You may need adjustment or a different type of CPAP. Sometimes CPAP not effective and surgery is indicated.

is it normal to still snore mildly and softly while using a cpap ? my machine says i have about 2 events average per night, which is better than 25 i had prior. but i still snore very mildly some times. do i need bipap?

: Is the snoring audible? You may need the mask to be tighter-it could be that the mask is leaking some so you should have that checked. It won’t make any difference-CPAP vs BiPAP-if the mask is leaking. It depends what the “events” are to determine the severity and whether or not it is acceptable to have them. But, make sure the mask is tight enough and not leaking significantly. Good luck!

Yes: Bipap is similar to CPAP with two levels of pressure for inhalation and exhalation. CPAP uses one level of pressure for both inhalation and exhalation.
